| First INAIAC Meeting March 2006 |
In April 2008 five Commissioners resigned from the INAIAC without any word to any of the remaining Commissioners who discovered this through a news announcement. A few months later the website for this Commission was removed from the Indiana Government site. No reason was given. The Governors office was contacted and requested that these seats be promptly filled with other applicants that are on file with the Governor. The Governors office stated: "When the commissioners walked out last summer, the commission was effectively dead. At that point, with the commission defunct, the seats became vacant. We are now moving to start over and appoint all new members to the commission" It is not dead or defunct because it is a Commission through statue (Permanent) and is coded as such see IC 4-4-31.4. At this time the Wea are still in hope that the Governor will fill these seats. There are a total of 17 seats, 15 voting (8 Natives) and 2 non voting. July 2009 - The Governors office is now in the process of making selections, although the terms where to start July 1, 2009 and run for four years. In April 2009 we contacted them inquiring on the applications the Governors office stated: "It is going well. I have received quite a few applications. I am looking for them all to be in by May 15th. Again on June 30 2009 two days before July 1 2009 "At this point, we have not received enough applications to re-seat the commission. We still have some outstanding applications and are working to get those back in and get folks appointed in a timely fashion." This is amazing since we had an application in and we still have not heard a thing. UPDATE NOVEMBER 25 2009 THE GOVERNOR HAS STILL NOT PLACED ANYONE IN THESE SEATS ! ! WE HAVE GIVEN THIS UP AND HANDED IT OVER TO YOU AMERICAN INDIANS HERE IN INDIANA TO FIGHT FOR YOUR RIGHTS. MAY CREATOR GUIDE YOU IN THIS FINAL UPDATE MARCH 2011 THE SEATS STILL ARE NOT PLACED, WE HOPE THAT THE NEXT GOVERNOR WILL ABIDE BY THE LAW THAT WAS PASTED AND PLACE THESE SEATS. WE WILL KEEP THIS PAGE ON OUR SITE UNTIL THIS IS DONE "When a man assumes a public trust he should consider himself a public property." Thomas Jefferson |
